President's Message

Los Angeles AEP President‘s Message – Meghan Gibson

Hello fellow Environmental Professionals,

We thank you for your interest in the Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP). AEP is a non-profit organization of professionals working to improve their skills as environmental and resource managers. AEP is the preeminent professional organization focused on the environmental review process including CEQA, NEPA, and various evolving policies on the local, state, and national level.

There are abundant benefits to becoming a member of AEP. Our popular CEQA and NEPA Workshops provide updates regarding various components of CEQA and NEPA including recent court actions that influence how we approach document writing. The annual State Conference offers members an opportunity to hear leading speakers in the environmental field. We are very excited this year to be hosting the 2021 State AEP Conference in beautiful Long Beach. The Conference will occur August 15-18 and will be offered in both in-person and virtual formats. Members receive discounts when attending workshops, conferences, and programs and often earn continuing education credits under AICP and MCLE.

AEP‘s Legislative Committee closely tracks and responds to proposed CEQA legislation and provides information and guidance to AEP members. Members receive our annual CEQA Handbook, the comprehensively indexed ’go-to‘ reference volume of environmental documents. Finally, the AEP website is a tremendous resource, providing information about upcoming programs, legislative updates, and job opportunities.

The core of our efforts in LA County are dedicated to presenting educational, technical and social programs to help you grow as an environmental professional. For 2021, we have an exciting slate of events in-store, including:

  • Quarterly Virtual Book Club (with Video and Podcast club options, as well)

  • Spring Virtual Membership Appreciation Event

  • Young Professionals Virtual Mixer

  • Advanced CEQA Workshop

  • Mentor Roundtable events with local university and college students

  • CEQA Essentials Workshop

  • NEPA Essentials Workshop

  • Legislative Update

  • Winter Holiday Party

  • And much more!

*Out of an abundance of caution and a desire to prioritize the health and safety of our volunteers, attendees, and community, we will be holding a majority of our events virtually for the time being. We will continue to keep you updated as we are able to get back to scheduling safe, in-person events to benefit our members and our community.*

Please join us in making LA AEP and interactive and supportive organization. We look forward to your enthusiastic participation and encourage you to join our next event!

Warmest wishes,

Meghan Gibson
